A quick guide to getting the height right:
* Counter-height chairs have seat heights generally between 23 and 28 inches from the floor to the top of the seat cushion. This is ideal for surfaces in the 35–39 inch range.
* Bar-height chairs have seat heights in the range of 29–32 inches. They are designed for taller surfaces, typically between 40 and 42 inches high.
* Before selecting your chair, measure from the floor to the underside of your work or dining surface. As a general rule, you want approximately 9–12 inches between the seat and the surface for comfortable legroom.
